In the spotlight this time around we have Kalamansification From the Wild Beer Company. The Wild Beer Co is based in rural Somerset, According to their website they aim to “celebrate traditional techniques whilst embracing a sense of modernity in our brewing. We want to give you a truly memorable drinking experience, altering your perceptions of beer and thrilling your taste buds.” With Kalamansification they have certainly achieved their aim.
Kalamansification is a 5% ABV tropical sour inspired by zingy tropical and citrus cocktails. Hopped using Ekuanot, Huell Melon and Mandarina Bavaria; The beer comes in a 25 IBUs. However, IBUs don’t tell the whole story as the hops really aren’t the stars here. During the brewing of Kalamansification the Wild Beer Co makes use of orange zest, lime, hibiscus, guava, passionfruit, kalamansi and lactose. This gives the beer a bright pink colour and a big tropical fruit juice flavour and aroma.
The tropical fruit flavours in Kalamansification are complimented well by it’s sourness. The Sour flavours here are not over powering and match the profile of the beer well making it an excellent accompaniment for food. Me and my significant other enjoyed a can of Kalamansification each whilst eating a green Thai curry and it really helped to bring out the citrus flavours in the dish. I’m please to say it got a thumbs up from my girlfriend who in her own words is “not a beer lover.”
Kalamnsification is definitely worth your time then if your a fan of fruity flavours or sour beers. Another great beer to keep an eye out for.
